June 3, 2012 – Grand Lake

The Skeeter Extreme Fishing League hosted it’s 4th and final regular season event at Martin’s Landing on Grand Lake.  151 teams entered this event and Grand certainly lived up to its reputation as one of the premier bass fisheries in the country by giving up 101 five fish limits with an impressive 3 lb avg. fish. Only 47 teams failed (more likely opted not to weigh) to weigh-in. A total of $52,720 was paid out to the field yielding a 175% payback over the total amount of entry fees collected.  It was a very close finish as only a few ounces separated the top teams and it took 19.57 lbs to get in the top 10.  Topping the field was the team of Allen Head, Pryor, OK. and Gary Carrier, Vinita, OK.  with a total weight of 21.36lbs.  Allen and Gary are certainly no strangers to the Oklahoma team tournament scene.  Wherever they fish they are always considered one of the teams to beat.  Gary was available for comment and was kind enough to share some details about their day. XFL Fish Care 101

XFL Fish Care 101

1. Livewells should be filled early in the morning when surface water is the coolest. You can then periodically add ice, if needed, to maintain the cool water temperature throughout the day. This will increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the water in your livewell and reduce heat stress on the fish. After filling your livewell with cool water add the appropriate amount of Rejuvenade as outlined on the bottle and turn your aerator on to saturate the water with oxygen prior to catching your first fish. Preparing your livewell prior to takeoff will save you time and preserve the weight of your catch.

Take-Off procedures explained…

1)      You may launch from the ramp of your choice, but you must go through boat check at the official launch site and wait for take-off. Boat check will always be at the take-off/weigh-in site. Live well checks will be done both at the ramp(s), and on the water at the pontoon boat. If the official launch site has more than one ramp, please try to use all of them.

2)      Trailering is not allowed (except in the case of bad weather, and it will always be announced prior to take-off). You may trailer to weigh your fish if you launched from the official launch/weigh-in site. This is always recommended due to crowded conditions on the water.
